Manucurist x The Met Gala

5 min to read
The Met Gala is one of the most highly anticipated events of the year, which seeks to encapsulate and celebrate moments in time related to fashion, cultural influence, and art. This year’s theme sought to commemorate and highlight Karl’s Laderfield’s impact on the industry, with many looks taking inspiration from iconic themes such as tweed, pearls and black & white. Manucurist was used by celebrity nail artists Naomi Yasuda and Dawn Sterling on some of the biggest names like: Rita Ora, Ashley Park, Florence Pugh and Gabriella Karefa-Johnson! Here is what they created.

RITA ORA by Naomi Yasuda

This eye-catching, edgy look was created using Green Flash Licorice, a rich and solid black shade that elevates the fierce and sultry look worn by Rita Ora. The inspiration for this look stems from Rita’s close relationship to Karl and her desire to memorialize him in a glamorous way by featuring a look that resembled the appearance of deconstructed Chanel necklaces.

Get the Look:

1- Prep the nail with Manucurist Cuticle Softener and gently push back the cuticles
2- Buff the nail to create a smooth base and finish the prep by degreasing the nail with an alcohol or acetone-free remover
3- Apply pointed nail extensions
4- Apply 1 coat of Green Flash Base Coat and cure for 1 minute under an 36W LED lamp
5- Apply Green Flash Licorice and cure for 1 minute, repeat with a second coat for a bolder color
6- Apply 1 coat of Green Flash Top Coat and cure for 1 minute
7- To get the deconstructed Chanel necklace look, glue individual charms to the nail and finish with another layer of Green Flash Top Coat over the adornments
8- Lastly, puncture a small hole in the tip of the nail to apply a chain attachment
9- Finish by applying Manucurist Green Oil and Hand Cream to lock in moisture and ensure a glowy finish

ASHLEY PARK by Naomi Yasuda

The long, sleek silhouette of the nails feel classic, where the hard metal grommets and dark color created using Green Flash Licorice gives a feeling of toughness. This look was perfectly paired with fingerless gloves to give an amazing overall look that was both elegant and strong.
